Ok, i had never heard of Supplier Development so this post is purely from a theoretical point of view. As i am studying for my CIPS i came across Supplier Development for one of the modules in Supplier Relationships. It generally means that the supplier is assisted in various ways so that their performance can be enhanced, they can become more efficient to develop improved services.
There are different examples of this such as even having the supplier be supported in soft loans so that they can acquire more improved production equipment which will improve your product delivery in turn meeting your business objectives. Overall i can see how this could work out really well, but then again i find most businesses are generally there for their own interests and don’t really care about the supplier side of things.
What are your thoughts on Supplier Development, have you seen it implemented within organisations effectively? Please share your experience, would like to know how this can work in the real world.
