If you haven’t heard apparently there’s a brand of burger patties at TESCO’s that was horse meat. The Feb 2013 issue of Supply Management magazine had a story about it. Basically the burger patties were tested and were found to be of a % of horse meat how is not clear but the main suppliers must have been trying some cost cutting. Suffice to say that a brand has been affected here and needs years of rebranding.
So it came down to management of the supply chain and monitoring supplier’s performance because obviously someone dropped the ball along the way. It’s the way you get so used to a certain way of doing things that you no longer really check up on it because in your mind you assume things are status quo and are all good.

The feature was an interesting read for sure!
