I received this from one of the readers, i always feel that i should share samples of the Q&A because i know students tends to have the same questions in their minds but don’t realize it until someone else asks, so here goes:
Q: Firstly, you really are a true inspiration!
I am currently studying level 4 and took my first exam in Nov 2013, with resulting in me having to rewrite.
The study center I am with does not seem to take this too seriously and only offer on-line support. Can I please ask for some advice?
– how did you master the concepts? Look for examples?
– how did you remember all the lists?
– how did you apply the theory to recall?
– more importantly, answering the questions in the way CIPS prefers?
I have enrolled fir both D1 and D2, and having difficulties drawing up a schedule. What is considered enough studying on a daily basis? How did you divide all the work? Did you only study the texbook or make use of the notes book as well?
The last exam left a bitter taste as I did re-evaluate why I want to continue to MCIPS. You have motivated that one can successfuly pass the level even with no level of study support, however I am in a rut and need to carry on with my studies.
Any advise that you can offer (i have read and re-read your article) I will really appreciate. I know that I cannot study like I studied for my Bachelours and Honors.
A:Kenya does not really have much in terms of self students support hence the reason I wanted to share my experiences with CIPS through my blog and took it further with my article in SM magazine. Thanks for the feedback. I will answer your questions best as I can.
How I mastered concepts: I read a chapter a day. Just simple reading and taking down short notes that I could randomly refer to. You must have a timetable, perhaps a chapter a day and stick to it. Do not look at past papers until you have finished reading through the course book.
In answering questions, with CIPs you must put relevant examples, I tend to lean on big brands that have been in the news for some reason since its easy to remember details. Maybe if you send me a specific question then I can show you how to answer. Its important to understand the key word that drives the question words like discuss, analyze etc need to be answered differently.
Review the past papers Examiners report because this will help you understand why you didn’t do well.
I only used CIPs books I did not use other reference material, I didn’t feel that I had to. With that I made my own short notes.
Keep at your dream to get to MCIPS it is mine too, I didn’t do as nice as I would have wanted for my Level 5 but I passed all papers now so get back on the wagon and keep going. Believe me if I can do it you can too.
